20 November 1940
The Hospital ship Wilhelm Gustloff is converted to a floating for naval personnel at the Baltic port of Gotenhafen

1945
The Hospital ship Wilhelm Gustloff is used in Operation Hannibal to transport 9,400 German soldiers and civilians from East Prussia to western Germany.

30 January 1945
The Hospital ship Wilhelm Gustloff is sunk by Russian submarine S-13 An estimated 9,400 people were killed in the sinking.
