Other: R-boats


The R406 R-boat (Räumboot) was built in the 1940s by Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard located in Lemwerder, Germany as a minesweeper or escort vessel for the Kriegsmarine.

And which served in the 16. Räumbootsflottille during the Second World War.

And after the capitulation of the Third Reich was employed in the German Mine Sweeping Administration (GMSA) and the United States Labour Service Unit B (LSU-B) which were controlled by the allies.


7 November 1944
The R-boat R406 is commissioned.

The R-boat R406 becomes operational with the 16. Räumbootsflottille.

The R-boat R406 serves with the German Mine Sweeping Administration (GMSA).

27 November 1947
The R-boat R406 is seized as a prize of war by the USA.

27 May 1948
The R-boat R406 is transferred to Schiff Ges Jade of Wilhelmshaven, as the motor passenger ferry Arngast.

15 September 1953
The Arngast serves with the United States Labour Service Unit B (LSU-B) as the USN 154.

The USN 154 is renamed to OT 1 whilst serving with the German Federal Navy (Bundesmarine).

20 February 1959
The OT 1 is stricken from naval records.

The OT 1 is broken up and scrapped.
