Other: R-boats


The R407 R-boat (Räumboot) was built in the 1940s by Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard located in Lemwerder, Germany as a minesweeper or escort vessel for the Kriegsmarine.

And which served in the 16. Räumbootsflottille during World War II.

And after the surrender of Germany was employed in the German Mine Sweeping Administration (GMSA) and the United States Labour Service Unit B (LSU-B) which were controlled by the allies.


The R-boat R407 is commissioned.

The R-boat R407 becomes operational with the 16. Räumbootsflottille.

The R-boat R407 serves with the German Mine Sweeping Administration (GMSA).

27 November 1947
The R-boat R407 is seized as a prize of war by the USA.

15 June 1948
The R-boat R407 is transferred to E Wilk of Oldenburg, as the Rhine tug Rewo.

15 September 1953
The Rewo serves with the United States Labour Service Unit B (LSU-B) as the USN 153.

21 January 1957
The USN 153 is renamed to AT 2 whilst serving with the German Federal Navy (Bundesmarine).

18 January 1963
The AT 2 is used as a target ship.
