The 12. Räumbootsflottille was formed in Bruges on 1 May 1942 and was initially commanded by Otto Maurer this flotilla was made up of the 1937-43 Type R-boats and was deployed for minesweeping and security duties.

The 12. Räumbootsflottille was transferred to Wimereux North of Boulogne.

The 12. Räumbootsflottille was transferred over French rivers to Marseille.

1943
The 12. Räumbootsflottille was deployed for minesweeping and security duties in the Mediterranean Sea.

February 1945
The 12. Räumbootsflottille was disbanded.
