Hans-Georg von Friedeburg was born on 15 July 1895 in Straßburg and was a serving member of the Kriegsmarine during World War II and managed to attain the rank of Generaladmiral and went on to command the following U-27.

Hans-Georg von Friedeburg joined Kaiserliche Marine as a Seekadett on 1 April 1914 and attended basic naval training and continued his training on board heavy cruiser Hansa during this time, he was promoted to the rank of Fähnrich zur See.
