Events On This Day

Warsaw announced that surrender had been agreed upon and that conditions were being negotiated. It was reported that the Polish was still holding out at Modlin and on the Hel Peninsula, overlooking Danzig.

Joachim von Ribbentrop arrived in Moscow at the head of a delegation to discuss matters connected with Poland.

From the Western front, it was reported that Germany was massing troops in the Rhineland.

Minor attacks by the enemy were repulsed.

French and British aircraft, working in co-operation brought down several Luftwaffe fighters. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) carried out further reconnaissance flights into Germany, and on the Western front.

In Great Britain, the war budget was introduced by Sir John Simon in the house of commons. was an increase of income tax 5s. 6d to 7s. 6d.

The Russian steamer Metallist was sunk by an unknown submarine off the coast of Estonia.

Slovak authorities ordered a partial demobilisation.

French admiralty announced that war, contraband seized up to 25 September 1939 totalled over 100,000 tons, including 24 tons of liquid fuel.

Communist party premises in Paris was searched and sealed up by the French police.

Adolf Hitler informs his generals of his plans to attack France.
