Russian Front, The Wehrmacht divisions repulsed near Tula. In Leningrad sector Russians claimed to be still holding Tikhvin. Soviet aircraft made night attack on Koenigsberg and Riga.

In the Mediterranean, Naples attacked at night by the British Royal Air Force (RAF). Gela, Sicily, attacked by Hurricane bombers.

In Africa, It was officially announced that Italian positions at Gondar, Abyssinia had been encircled by Allied troops, after capture of Gianda. Fayum area, South West of Cairo, raided by enemy aircraft.

New session of Parliament opened by King.

General Huntziger, Vichy war minister, killed in air crash.

Finland rejected United States of America suggestion that she should cease hostilities.
