Events On This Day

Russian Front, Russian advance in Moscow area continued. Large Wehrmacht forces surrounded at Klin.

In Africa, Battle swinging westwards in Libya. Hundreds of Axis prisoners captured near Bir Hakeim.

Far East, Heavy Japanese mechanised attack in north-west Malaya with fighting along the borders of Burma. Hong Kong garrison rejected an ultimatum to surrender.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers are sent against beachhead at Legaspi. 1st Lieutenant Hewitt T Wheless is later awarded DSC for bringing his bullet-riddled aircraft back from the mission to an emergency crash landing at Cagayan.
