Events On This Day

Offensive sweep over Holland and North France. Heavy raid on Le Havre; Night attack on targets in Western Germany. Docks at Dunkirk, Ostend and Calais also attacked.

Russian Front, Romanians claimed to have marched into Odessa. A Romanian army under General Jacobici entered the town from which the Red Army defenders had been successfully evacuated by units of their Soviet fleet. Odessas war industries were, completely destroyed by its defenders before they left. Soviet Government reported to have left Moscow.

In Africa, Heavy bombers of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) raided Benghazi on night of 15-16 October 1941.

A few Luftwaffe planes over East Coast of England. One Luftwaffe bomber destroyed.

Japanese cabinet resigned.
