Events On This Day

The British main night objectives were port of Bremen and industrial districts at Duisburg.

Russian Front, The Wehrmacht claimed capture of Black Sea port of Nikolaiev and town of Nikopol. Russians reported fighting all along front and much air activity.

In Africa, Considerable enemy bombing at Tobruk. British patrols continued offensive.

In the Mediterranean, During the night of 16-17 August 1941 Fleet Air Arm successfully attacked harbour at Syracuse and barracks at Cape Passero.

Single Luftwaffe aircraft dropped bombs at point near southeast coast of Scotland. Night raid on Hull. One Luftwaffe He 111 bomber destroyed.
