The British Admiralty announced the sinking of Italian submarine Ammiraglio Caracciolo in Mediterranean by the destroyer HMS Farndale. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) made heavy attack on Brest docks at night.

Russian Front, Aleksin and Shchekino, in the Moscow area, recaptured by Russians.

In Africa, Battle at Alem Hamza continued. Axis forces offered strong resistance at Halegh el Olebam, west of Gazala. By nightfall main British infantry forces had reached the general line of the Tmimi-Mekilii road.

Far East, Japanese reached a point 10 miles from Penang. Three enemy landings made in Sarawak, where British forces withdrew after destroying oil refineries. Japanese demand for surrender of Hong Kong rejected by Sir Mark Young, the Governor.

United Kingdom. General Chaney, Chief Special Observer Group, United States Army (SPOBS), writes to Adjutant General, United States of America on Construction Program of United States Forces in United Kingdom, which indicates shortage of accommodations for proposed United States force sin Scotland, North Ireland, and England.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, evacuating Luzon, begin arriving at Batchelor Field. Capt. Floyd J Pell arrives in Australia to begin arrangements for use of Australian facilities by Far East Air Force (FEAF).
