Events On This Day

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) made daylight and night attacks on the docks at Brest.

Russian Front. Powerful Russian offensive developing in Karelia against the Finns.

In Africa. British victory in Libya after three day battle in the Gazala area. British troops advanced thirty miles in a day.

Far East. Dutch and Australian troops landed in Portuguese Timor to forestall an expected Japanese aggression, New Japanese attack on Northeast Malaya driven off with heavy losses. In Kedah British retired to a new line leaving the coast opposite Penang in Japanese hands. Heavy artillery duels at Hong Kong.

Hawaiian Air Force. General Tinker succeeds General Martinas Commanding General.
