Events On This Day

The British Admiralty announced that the submarines in Aegean and Mediterranean had sunk eight Italian vessels, including a tanker and three supply ships. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) again attacked targets on French coast and shipping in Channel. Nine Luftwaffe Me 109 fighters shot down with loss of four British. At night Brest, Bremen and other German ports were raided.

Near East, Further positions captured south of Damascus. Vichy force in Merj Ayoun now surrounded.

Turkey signed Treaty of Friendship with Germany.
