Russian Front, Moscow announced that General Meretsov's forces had advanced 45 miles beyond Tikhvin.

In Africa, British armoured forces attempting to head off Erwin Rommel's forces and force them to give battle west of Benghazi.

Far East, Japanese invaders of Malaya thrusting towards Ipoh, 300 miles north of Singapore.

Adolf Hitler declared himself Commander-in-Chief of the Wehrmacht Armies. Field Marshal Walther von Brauchitsch being superseded.

Col. Knox announced that 14 enemy submarines had been sunk or damaged in Atlantic by United States Navy.
