Events On This Day

The British Admiralty announced the torpedoing of three enemy ships in Mediterranean. Free French naval Headquarters. announced that submarine Minerve had torpedoed large tanker off Norway. Daylight attack on supply ship off Norway and a minesweeper. Two night raids on Brest.

The war against Italy, During the night of 21-22 April 1941 Australian troops made two successful raids on Tobruk, capturing about 450 prisoners. Air battle over Tobruk in which enemy lost four planes. Malta had its worst night raid heavy damage but few casualties.

Some Luftwaffe daylight activity, mainly in southeast England. Another heavy night raid on Plymouth. South coast town and other places also bombed. Luftwaffe aircraft destroyed in Channel.

In the Balkans, Empire Forces now occupying new defensive positions south of Lamia. Contact maintained with Greeks whose left flank is in danger from Wehrmacht thrust across Pindus Mountains. Luftwaffe aircraft repeatedly raided the Piraeus, Eleusis, Megara and district of Attika. Hospital ship Ponikos attacked.
