Events On This Day

Russian Front, The Wehrmacht pushed back seven miles by Soviet counter-attacks in the Leningrad sector. The Wehrmacht 3rd Mountain Infantry Division routed near Murmansk.

In the Middle East, It was announced from Cairo that General Wavell had returned to India after a conference with General Auchinleck somewhere in the Middle East.

In Iran, The Iranian government decided to recall its diplomatic representatives in Germany, Italy and Rumania.

In Africa, In Abyssinia enemy positions near Gondar bombed by

Luftwaffe night raiders dropped a few bombs in South Wales and South West England.

Mr. Churchill appointed Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports in succession to the late Marquess of Willingdon.

General de Gaulle announced Free French National Committee.
