The British Admiralty announced that HMS trawler Brabant had shot down a Dornier Do 17. HMS submarine Union overdue and considered lost. Daylight offensive patrols over Northern France. Sharp night attack on Duesseldorf.

Russian Front, Moscow reported fierce battles near Odessa, where 3rd Rumanian Division was annihilated, Russian counter-attacks in region of Gomel. Four Kriegsmarine transports sunk in Baltic. The Wehrmacht claimed to have forced Russians back in Lake Ilmen area, south of Leningrad, capturing 10,000 prisoners. Great tank battle in progress. Helsinki claimed that Finnish troops had surrounded Viipuri. Berlin admitted that Russian bombers had destroyed power station at Zaporoje, on river Dnieper.

In Africa, Heavy night attack on Tripoli.
