Events On This Day

The British Admiralty announced that the pursuit of the German battleship Bismarck was continuing. The yacht HMS Viva II was reported sunk. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) attacked shipping off Dutch, German and Danish coasts.

In Africa, Cairo announced surrender of over 8,000 troops north of Addis Ababa.

Near East, It was announced that King George of the Hellenes and the Greek Government had reached Egypt from Crete. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers and fighters heavily attacked enemy positions and aerodrome at Maleme, destroying at least 24 aircraft.

In Iraq, Rashid Ali revolt collapsing. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombed Ramadi, on the Euphrates, and aerodromes at Mosul and Baquba. Enemy aircraft attacked Habbaniyah.

Two Luftwaffe Messerschmitt Bf 109 shot down.
