Events On This Day

Twenty one Luftwaffe planes destroyed by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) in a sweep over Northern France. Railway at Amiens and La Bassée bombed.

Russian Front, Bitter fighting in Crimea. New Wehrmacht offensive against Leningrad repulsed with heavy losses.

In Africa, Bardia and neighbourhood bombed by the British Royal Air Force (RAF). Motor transport bombed near Mersa Lukk.

In the Mediterranean, The British Royal Air Force (RAF) attacks on enemy aircraft and aerodromes at Elmas, Sardinia, and at Marsala and Borizzo in Sicily. Electrical plant bombed at Porto Empedocle, Sicily. Important British convoy attacked by Italian torpedo bombers. HMS Nelson hit by torpedo, but not badly damaged. Convoy went through safely with the loss of only one merchant vessel.
