Events On This Day

It was announced that Greek submarine Papanikolis had torpedoed large enemy transport off Brindisi on night of 28-29 January 1941.

Shortly before dawn the British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombed docks at Boulogne and Ostend. During daylight large formations of fighters and bombers carried out offensive sweeps over Straits of Dover and enemy-occupied territory.

Three Luftwaffe fighters destroyed.

Other attacks made by Coastal Command on aerodromes at Ostend and Berck.

The war against Italy, Concentration of forces in area west of Derna proceeding. In Barentu sector operations developing well. Farther south Biacundi was captured. In Abyssinia enemy in full retreat on Metemma-Gondar road. Enemy falling back before pressure of British patrols in Italian Somaliland.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) fighters and bombers very active between Derna and Benghazi. Naval Swordfish aircraft carried out successful attack on power plant in Sardinia.

Slight Luftwaffe activity over Eastern England. Bombs fell in few places in East Anglia and Kent.

The Greek War, Athens reported further local successes. More territory was occupied, and 260 prisoners taken much war material.
