Events On This Day

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers made two day raids on objectives in Germany, including Bremen and Kiel. Large force carried out sweep over Northern France. Night attacks on Duisbnrg, Cologne and Duesseldorf. Four of our bombers missing.

Russian Front, Fierce fighting in Murmansk sector. The Wehrmacht attacks on Karelian Isthmus repulsed. Attempted naval landing frustrated. The Wehrmacht claimed capture of Latvian port of Liepaja (Libau). Russians reported heavy fighting in Dvinsk area. The Wehrmacht claimed to have occupied Minsk and to be advancing eastwards. In southern Poland. The Wehrmacht reported capture of Lwow and Jaworow.

In Africa, Heavy and successful British Royal Air Force (RAF) raids on Tripoli. Eight Luftwaffe aircraft shot down off coast of Cyrenaica.

Near East, Free French forces repulsed strong Vichy counter-attack northeast of Damascus. Cairo reported that Palmyra was completely encircled, Heavy British Royal Air Force (RAF) raids on Syrian aerodromes.

Luftwaffe night raid on South Wales towns. Luftwaffe bombs also fell in West and South West England.
