Events On This Day

In Africa, South African Air Force (SAAF) continued to harass Italian force holding out at Gimnia, Abyssinia. In Gondar area, forts at Azozo and Digya were attacked.

Near East, Evacuation of British forces from Crete began. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) heavily bombed aerodromes at Maleme and Heraklion.

In Iraq, Cairo announced that British troops advancing northwards had occupied Ur. Other forces had reached Kadainiain, five miles North West of Baghdad. Heavy bombing attacks on Washash and Rashid.

Sharp Luftwaffe night raid on West of England town. Luftwaffe bombs also fell in Dublin, causing damage and casualties. Three Luftwaffe bombers reported destroyed, two by HM. ships.
