Events On This Day

The British Admiralty announced that submarines in Mediterranean had sunk strongly escorted 11,000 ton Italian liner Espcriu and 4,000 ton ship of Ramb class. Fortress aircraft attacked shipping at Oslo. Night raid rubber factory at Huls, Rhineland. Coastal Command attacked harbour at Bergso Island, Norway.

Russian Front, Struggle for Leningrad continued. Further south fierce fighting along line of river Lovat, north of Kholm, and on southern flank of Smolensk salient. All attacks on Odessa being repulsed.

In Africa, On night of 5-6 September 1941 the British Royal Air Force (RAF) sank a merchantmen at Tripoli, and bombed Derna, Martuba, Bardia and aerodrome at El Adam.

In the Mediterranean, The Luftwaffe made a night raid on Suez Canal area.
