Events On This Day

British naval forces carried out heavy bombardment of Italian naval base at Genoa, inflicting much damage.

The British Admiralty announced that HM. trawlers Almond and Arctic Trapper had been sunk.

Two Spitfires carried out offensive patrol over Calais area.

The British Coastal Command aircraft made torpedo attacks on Kriegsmarine destroyers off Norwegian coast, hitting one amidships. Other aircraft bombed oil tanks at Flushing and docks at Antwerp.

The war against Italy, Advanced British armoured units occupied El Agheila, on Gulf of Sidra. Despite enemy reinforcements, operations round Keren proceeding satisfactorily. Naval aircraft attacked aerodrome and railway junction at Pisa and refineries at Leghorn.

Luftwaffe daylight activity near Southeast and East coasts, but no bombs. At night bombs fell in East Anglia, ,Essex, Home Counties and one place in west of Scotland.

Two Luftwaffe bombers destroyed.

The Greek War, Enemy counter-attacks repulsed, but Greeks held up by bad weather.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) shot down seven Italian fighters in Klisura area.

M. Flandin resigned from Foreign Ministry.

Marshal Pétain appointed Admiral Darlan, Minister of Marine, to be Vice Premier and Foreign Minister.
