The Kriegsmarine U-boat U-110 is captured by the British Royal Navy. Probably one of the most important events of the battle against the U-boats. A boarding party from HMS Bulldog went aboard the Kriegsmarine U-boat U-110 and recovered an Enigma machine with rotors set, and current code books.

The British Admiralty announced that a Kriegsmarine commerce raider had been sunk in Indian Ocean by the HMS Cornwall. Destructive night raid on Mannheim and Ludwigshaven. Docks in occupied territory and aerodromes in Norway and North France also bombed.

In Africa, The British Royal Air Force (RAF) attacked aerodromes at Derna, jedabia and Gazala.

In Iraq, Revolt collapsing. Rutbah aerodrome occupied by British.

Luftwaffe night raiders over West of England, Midlands and northeast England. Luftwaffe fighter destroyed in southeast England. Three Luftwaffe night bombers shot down destroyed.

HMS Cornwell

HMS CORNWALL (Capt. PJC. W. Mainwaring, R.N.), which sank a German armed merchant cruiser preying upon ships in the Indian Ocean. Twenty-seven British merchant seamen held prisoner aboard the raider were rescued and 53 of the German crew who survived were captured. The HMS Cornwall, a cruiser of the Kent class, displaced 10,000 tons and has a complement of 1679.
