Afrika Corps tank and infantry attacks in direction of Mejez-el-Bab
beaten back, Tunis docks bombed by Allied bombers.
In Libya. Allied
aircraft attacked Marble Arch landing ground, West of El Agheila.
India. Japanese air force bombers and fighters raided Chittagong, Bengal.
In Australasia. It was announced that Allied forces had completely occupied
Gona area of New Guinea.
Twelfth Air Force. Due to heavy rains and waterlogging
of airfields, aerial activity in Algeria-Tunisia area practically ceases. Allied
troops repulse another armoured and infantry attack on Medjez el Bab. During 10-11
December 1942, elements of British 78th Division and United States 1st Armoured
Division begin withdrawal to Bedja area to refit. 1st Armoured Division sustains
heavy loss of equipment as it withdraws.
Eleventh Air Force. The weather
aircraft which crash landed at Atka on the previous day is sighted on the Western
end of the island, its fuselage broken off aft of the wings. Crew, later brought
back, is unharmed except for light injuries of General Lynd, visiting Inspector
General. Uneventful reconnaissance covers Attu, Kiska and the Semichis. 4 B-26
Marauder medium bombers and 6 P-38 Lightning fighters abort a bomb run to Kiska
