Events On This Day

Russian Front. Heavy attacks on Sebastopol, The Wehrmacht also attacking at Kharkov.

In the Mediterranean. Harbours of Taranto and Piraeus raided by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers.

In Africa. Our armoured forces engaged enemy East of Harmat.

Mr. Eden announced signing of Anglo Soviet Pact on 25 May 1942. Anglo Russian treaty. The Alliance announced by Mr. Eden in the House of Commons

Execution of 34 Czechs announced.

Eleventh Air Force. The Eleventh strikes at Kiska for the first time. 5 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and 5 B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers from Cold Bay load bombs at Umnak and hit Kiska harbour installations and shipping targets. Low altitude runs score near misses on 2 cruisers and a destroyer. Antiaircraft downs a B-24 Liberator heavy bombers. The other B-24 Liberator heavy bombers are pursued by 4 fighters back to Umnak where United States fighters drive them off. Navy aeroplanes discover Japanese landing at Attu.

Zone of Interior. Aircraft and crews of 97th Bomber Group, deployed temporarily to West coast, are ordered back to New England for movement to United Kingdom.
