Russian Front, Red Army breached a strongly fortified line on the Kalinin front.

In Africa, Free French announced the capture of Axis outpost at Temessa.

Far East, Army communique stated that fresh Japanese landings had been made in the Irrawaddy delta. Australian and American bombers carried out dawn to dusk attack on Japanese forces in New Guinea.

Mr. Churchill announced that Sir Stafford Cripps would go to India to negotiate on Government plan to end the long constitutional deadlock.

Greek Maritime Court opened in London.
