Events On This Day

Russian Front. Heavy fighting in Kharkov sector, Sebastopol beat of attacks.

In the Mediterranean. Heraklion and Taranto raided by the British Royal Air Force (RAF).

In Africa. Severe fighting between armoured forces South of Acroma.

In China. The Japanese entered Nancheng, South of Nanchang.

In Australasia. Twenty-seven Japanese bombers raided Darwin. Allied bombers raided shipping at Simberi, New Ireland

More United States of America troops arrived in Northern Ireland, escorted by United States of America naval forces.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers hit airfields at Rabaul.

Eleventh Air Force. A United States Army Air Force (USAAF) LB-30 bombers flies weather mission and for the third straight day Kiska Harbour shipping is bombed by 5 B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers and 3 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers. 2 heavy bombers turn back. The others bomb partially cloud obscured targets. No effect observed.
