The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers carry out the heaviest air raid of the war so far on Kiel and surrounding areas.

Russian Front. Comparative lull on Stalingrad front continued.

In the Mediterranean. Twenty enemy aircraft destroyed over Malta over 1,000 aircraft now destroyed in battles round the island.

In Australasia On night of 13-14 October 1942 Japanese surface warships shelled Guadalcanal and landed reinforcements.

General Smuts in London.

United States Army, Middle East Air Forces (USAMEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40 fighters fly fighters sweep, patrol, and interception missions West of El Alamein. Fighters claim 2 Me 109's destroyed and 1 damaged.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers again pound Rabaul, concentrating on Vunakanau and Lakunai airfields. A B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bombs Buna.

South Pacific (SOPAC). 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb Buka and Tonolai. Japanese aircraft from Rabaul pound Henderson Field during the day and hit troops of the American Division disembarking at Lunga Port. Artillery also begins shelling the airstrip. During 13-14 October 1942 the battleships Kongo and Haruna hit Henderson with a terrific bombardment. The field is damaged severely and many aeroplanes are destroyed or damaged.

Eleventh Air Force. A search mission is not completed due to weather.
