Events On This Day

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers carried out extensive night attack on Mannheim and North West Germany.

Russian Front, Further advances on the Kalinin front. Leningrad fighting continued.

In the Mediterranean, Many aerodromes and military targets in Sicily bombed by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers had a particularly effective raid on Gherbini.

In Africa, In Libya 18 Kittyhawks, attacking formation of 30 Axis planes, shot down 20 and damaged the rest for no loss.

Far East, Imperial forces still resisting in Singapore, where Japanese pressure increased. Japanese made an attack on Palembang, Sumatra, with parachutists. Heavy artillery duelling in the Philippines. Enemy attack in Burma slackened.
