The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers carried out an offensive sweep over North France. Bomber aircraft made night attack on docks at St. Nazaire.

Russian Front, Moscow reported severe fighting in the Kerch Peninsula.

In the Mediterranean, Naval aircraft attacked units of Italian fleet and certain hits were obtained by torpedoes on two cruisers and a destroyer. A second destroyer probably hit.

Far East, Singapore fell, In Sumatra, Japanese launched a full-scale attack on Palembang. In Luzon, the Japanese regrouped their forces for a new offensive. In Burma, Japanese reported to be attacking Thaton.

A few Luftwaffe bombs dropped by night in Northeast England and South West Scotland. A Luftwaffe bomber was destroyed.

Oil refinery on Aruba Island, in Caribbean, shelled by U-156 and was under the command Werner Hartenstein who wanted a reconnaissance of the area before attacking the Lago Company oil tanks near Oranjestad. Werner Hartenstein commanded the Neuland Gruppe, a Wolfpack of five German and two Italian submarines. These other submarines were U-67, U-129, U-161, and U-502.

Lieutenant Colonel Townsend Griffiss, aide to General Chaney, is killed when the aircraft on which he is a passenger is mistakenly shot down by The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Polish fliers. He is first United States airman to die in line of duty in Europe since the United States entered World War II. Eighth Air Force base at Bushy Park is later named Camp Griffiss in his honour.
