The British air force sent well over 400 Spitfires that made offensive sweeps over North France. Night raids on Lorient and Le Havre.

In the Philippines, General Wainwright appoints General Sharp to command the troops in the central Philippines. Having occupied Cebu, the Japanese land over 4,000 men on Panay Island, mostly near the capital, Iloilo, in the south, and at Capiz (now Roxas) in the Northeast. The 7,000 strong garrison, rather than take on the invaders, withdraw inland into the mountains to operate as guerrillas.

In Malta, In recognition of the heroism with which it has faced up to its terrible battering by the Axis air forces, the island is awarded the George Cross by the King.

Tenth Air Force. Heavy bombers take off from Dum airfield near Calcutta to bomb Rangoon. 6 B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, guided by flares, bomb the target. Numerous searchlights make it impossible to estimate the bombing results.
