Russian Front, Soviet forces continued their attacks in the Leningrad sector. Moscow announced appointment of Boris Bannikov as People's Commissar for War Supplies.

In Africa, Patrol activity continued.

Far East, MacArthur's positions in Batan peninsula shelled for 24 hours. Japanese forces occupied Thaton, in Burma. Heavy fighting around Palembang, captured by the Japanese.

Luftwaffe bomber destroyed off South West coast England.

35,000 ton United States battleship Alabama launched nine months ahead of schedule.
