United States of America Army Air Force Flying Fortresses raided railway marshalling yards at Rouen by daylight. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers carried out intensive night raids on Osnabrück and surrounding area.

Russian Front. Heavy Wehrmacht attacks at Mineralniye Vody, in area of Krasnodar the Wehrmacht forced crossing of Kuban river.

In Australasia. Japanese bombers caused damage and casualties in heavy raid on aerodrome near Port Moresby.

Brazilian Government announced sinking of five ships, including army transport, by Axis submarines.

Eighth Air Force. 12 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers of 97th Bomber Group, escorted by Spitfires, launch first Army Air Forces heavy bomber attack from United Kingdom against West Europe. Target is Rouen-Sotteville marshalling yard. Sergeant Kent R West shoots down German fighters, thus becoming the first Eighth Air Force gunner to receive credit for a combat kill. VIII Ground Air Support Command (GASC) opens its Headquarters at Membury.

United States Army, Middle East Air Forces (USAMEAF). Headquarters United States Army, Middle East Air Forces (USAMEAF) announces designation of General Strickland as Commanding General IX Fighter Command. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers of 81st Bomber Squadron hit stores, depot and tank repair shops at Matruh. This marks debut of the military police of the 12th Bomber Group in Middle East.

Fifth Air Force. A single United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb's Kavieng.

Eleventh Air Force. 1 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers flies photo reconnaissance over Buldir, Kiska and Amchitka Islands despite heavy rain.
