Events On This Day

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Lancaster bombers made a heavy daylight attack on Schneider armament works at Le Creusot.

Russian Front. The Wehrmacht ground forces continued its attacks on Stalingrad however the Russians managed to repulse all attacks.

In Africa. It was announced that United States of America ground forces had arrived in Liberia.

In Australasia. United States of America surface warships bombarded Japanese ground forces positions on Guadalcanal.

Eleventh Air Force. 5 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Kiska Main Camp area and beached vessel in Trout Lagoon. Results unobserved due to clouds. 1 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers flying weather reconnaissance finds no trace of 2 destroyers, confirming their sinking on 16 October 1942.
