Russian Front, Stalin's armies closed in still further on the Rjev-Vyazma pocket. Gzhatsk reported encircled by Red troops.

Far East, Communique from Sydney announced that 23 Japanese ships had been destroyed in Allied air raids on Salamaua and Lao, in New Guinea. In Burma, Japanese advancing up Irrawaddy river. Allied troops in action south of Kanyutkwin.

Luftwaffe bombs dropped at night near South West coast of England.
