United States of America Flying Fortresses heavy bombers carried out intensive raids on Luftwaffe fighter base at Abbeville.

Russian Front. Evacuation of Krasnodar announced by Russians.

In Africa Large, contingent of United States of America Army Air Force arrived in Middle East.

In Australasia. United States of America Flying Fortress bombers attacked Japanese warships in the Solomons.

Nine-hour combined operations raid in Dieppe area.

Eighth Air Force. 22 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers drop 34 tons of bombs on Abbeville and Drucat airfield causing extensive damage. This mission is flown to occupy enemy fighters and prevent them from opposing an invasion by over 5,000 Allied troops, mostly Canadians, who raid Dieppe. 2d Lieutenant Samuel F Junkin Junior of 309th Fighter Squadron, 31st Fighter Group, flying a Spitfire in support of the amphibious raid on Dieppe, shoots down a Luftwaffe fighters. This being the first aerial victory won by an Eighth Air Force fighters pilot flying from the United Kingdom.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb shipping at Faisi on Shortland Island.

Eleventh Air Force. Mechanical failure prevents a B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from flying reconnaissance over Tanaga.
