Night action in English Channel resulting in destruction of two E-boats and damage to other Kriegsmarine units. In darkness Kriegsmarine ships fired on each other, and German shore batteries on their own forces.

The British Royal Air Force carried out daylight raids on railway on other targets in Northern France and on Flushing.

Russian Front. Fierce engagements in areas of Kletskaya, Tsimlyanskaya, Kushchevsk and Salsk, rail junction 100 miles Southeast of Rostov.

The Luftwaffe carried out a night raid on Norwich.

Eighth Air Force. General Eaker describes the mission of VIII Bomber Command as the destruction of carefully chosen strategic targets in Europe.

United States Army, Middle East Air Forces (USAMEAF). During 1-2 August 1942, B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit convoy in Mediterranean, scoring 3 direct hits on a large merchant ship which last aircraft reports sinking. 1 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers is lost in crash landing at base.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers attack installations at Gona and shipping 75 miles East of Salamaua in Huon Gulf.

Eleventh Air Force. Weather and photo reconnaissance is flown by 1 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and 1 LB-30 bomber over Korovin Bay and North Cape.
