The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers launched an intensive attacked Emden at night.

Russian Front, The Wehrmacht armies in Mojaisk sector retreating towards Vyazma. Soviet announced recapture of Ostashevo, 100 miles north of Rjev.

Far East, In Malaya heavy fighting between mouth of Muar river and Batu Pahat. In the Philippines new attacks on General MacArthur's positions in the Batan peninsula held, United States War Department announced that a Japanese cruiser was sunk by American bombers off Mindanao. Heavy Japanese air raid on Sabang, off North Sumatra. Communicate from Rangoon reported crossing of Burmese frontier east of Myawaddi by Thai troops. Melbourne announced a heavy Japanese air attack on Rabaul, in New Guinea.

Few Luftwaffe raiders dropped bombs on the East Coast after dusk, Northeast coast town bombed and machine-gunned by single raider during daylight.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). General Brett, Commanding General United States Army Forces in Australia (USAFIA), halts ferrying of aircraft from India to Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Army Air Forces
has been sending heavy bombers to Java by way of Africa and India, but the Japanese are able to inflict prohibitive losses on Army Air Forces
aircraft on the last stops of the route by interception from newly acquired airfields near Java.
