Events On This Day

Russian Front. Russian offensive continued in Kharkov region, The Wehrmacht attacks were repulsed in Barvenkovo sector; fighting still going on in east of Kerch Peninsula.

In the Mediterranean. Fleet Air Arm attacked enemy convoy off Malta.

In Burma. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers attacked enemy troops at Kalewa and Akyab.

In China. Severe fighting continued in Chekiang. Japanese made new landings at mouth of Min river, below Foochow.

In Australasia. Allied bombers attacked harbour of Dilli in Portuguese Timor. Japanese fighters intercepted over Port Moresby.

Mr. Molotov, Russian Foreign Minister, arrived in Britain for discussions with the British Government concerning the military and political situation.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers attack airfields and antiaircraft guns at Koepang on Timor Island.

South Pacific (SOPAC). Admiral McCain, aboard USS Tangier at Noumea, assumes command as Commander Aircraft South Pacific Forces (COMAIRSOPAC).
