Events On This Day

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers carried out a night raid on Turin which was the heaviest yet made on Italy.

North Africa. Field Marshal Erwin Rommel's mechanised columns driven back by Allied advanced elements in Tunisia. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) and United States of America bombers raided airfields at Tunis and Bizerta, enemy aircraft bombed Algiers.

In Libya. Allied troops occupied Benghazi.

In Burma. United States of America heavy bombers operating from India raided Mandalay.

Twelfth Air Force. During 20-21 November 1942, enemy aeroplanes bomb harbour and Maison Blanche airfield at Algiers, destroying several aircraft at the field.

Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40s patrol over battle area near Bengasi, as that city falls to British 10 Corps.

Tenth Air Force. 8 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers bomb marshalling yard at Mandalay as India Air Task Force (IATF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, commanded by Colonel Conrad F Necrason, intensify their campaign against Burma and Thailand.

Eleventh Air Force. Reconnaissance aircraft over Kiska draws heavy antiaircraft fire from Gertrude Cove.
