The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers made heavy night attack on Bremen and Emden. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) made extensive daylight sweep over North France.

Russian Front, The Wehrmacht falling back towards Smolensk. Fierce fighting outside Borodino, 12 miles west of Mojaisk.

Far East, Heavy air raid on Singapore in which 13 enemy aircraft were destroyed. Heavy fighting continued between Muar and Batu Pahat. In Philippines, General MacArthur's troops made a successful counter-attack. One of his guerilla bands gained a local success in a surprise raid against an enemy aerodrome at Tuguegarao. More large-scale air attacks on New Guinea.

A few Luftwaffe bombs at night in East Anglia. A daylight Luftwaffe raider dropped bombs on one of the Shetland Islands.

Hawaiian Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers of Task group 8.9 fly from Canton Island to Nandi.
