It was announced that British submarines in Mediterranean had sunk three enemy supply ships.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers raided Duisburg and other places in Ruhr and Rhineland. Russian Air Force bombed East Prussia.

Russian Front. Fighting continued round Voronezh, Tsimlyanskaya and Novocherkassk, and spread to Rostov area.

In Australasia. Allied bombers raided Japanese in Buna area of New Guinea, dive bombers attacked Gona.

Seven Luftwaffe aircraft destroyed in scattered night raids over England.

United States Army, Middle East Air Forces (USAMEAF). 98th Bomber Group is assigned to United States Army, Middle East Air Forces (USAMEAF).

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, B-26 Marauder medium bombers, A-24 Banshee dive bombers, and fighters pound shipping, landing barges, storage dumps, antiaircraft positions, and troop concentrations at Buna and Gona as the enemy pushes inland along Kokoda trail. Fighters also hit harbour at Salamaua.

South Pacific (SOPAC). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) 11th Bomber Group B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers in New Caledonia begin photo reconnaissance of Guadalcanal-Tulagi-Gavutu area.

Seventh Air Force. 3 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, staging through Canton Island, carry out photo reconnaissance of Makin.
