Events On This Day

United States of America Navy Department. Announce submarine attacks on three more United States ships in Gulf of Mexico.

Russian. Front. Russians announce evacuation of Kerch Peninsula, on Kharkov front Russians dug in, The Wehrmacht attacks in Barvenkovo area beaten off.

In Africa. Bomber and fighter activity increased over Cyrenaica. Derna landing ground bombed by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers and enemy transport at Martuba attacked by night.

In the Mediterranean. Eleven enemy aircraft destroyed or damaged over Malta.

In Australasia. Allied aircraft bombed Lae aerodrome and attacked shipping at Amboina.

Ten more hostages shot in Paris for attacks on Wehrmacht soldiers.

Eighth Air Force. Agreement is reached on plan to transfer repair depot at Burtonwood to United States forces following period of joint control to begin at end of June. Burtonwood later becomes greatest Army Air Forces depot overseas.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers strike airfields and buildings at Lae.
