North Africa. Darlan announced from Algiers that French West Africa had put itself under his orders.

Sir Pound, First Lord of the Admiralty, writes to General Eaker praising the effects of United States bomber attacks on disorganising the servicing schedule of the Kriegsmarine U-boat bases on the French West coast.

Twelfth Air Force. Main Headquarters Twelfth Air Force is moved from Gibraltar to Algiers. B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, with P-38 Lightning fighters escort, sent to bomb airfields at Elmas abort due to bad weather.

Tenth Air Force. 9 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 7 P-40s of Chine Air Task Force (CATF) feint at Hong Kong, then fly to Gulf of Tonkin and sink a freighter and damage 2 others near Haiphong. 6 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 17 P-40s pound Tien Ho airfield claiming more than 40 aircraft destroyed on the field. These strikes follow 3 weeks of missions in support of Chinese forces along the Siang-Chiang River.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20 Havoc light bombers and B-26 Marauder medium bombers pound Sanananda Point East as Australian forces begin assault on Gona and United States forces approach Sanananda.
