Events On This Day

Russian Front. North West and South of Stalingrad Soviet advance continued with 15,000 more Wehrmacht prisoners taken into captivity.

In Burma. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers made day and night attacks on Japanese airfields and railways.

In China. United States of America bombers aircraft attacked Japanese surface shipping at Canton and Hankow.

In Australasia. Two Japanese destroyers sunk off New Guinea in attempts to relieve troops at Bona.

Twelfth Air Force. Spitfires and P-38 Lightning fighters fly widespread reconnaissance missions over coastal Algeria.

Ninth Air Force. Air echelon of 316th Trip Carrier Group (except for 1 Squadron which arrives 10 days later) arrives in Egypt, and begins operations almost immediately. This does much to relieve the transport situation in the Eastern Desert. P-40s escort minesweepers in vicinity of Bengasi harbour. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) raids Tripoli harbour during 25-26 November 1942.

Tenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and P-40s cripple 3 freighters on Pearl River near Canton.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-38 Lightning fighters hit airfields at Lae. A lone B-25 Mitchell medium bombers scores hit on cruiser off Tami Island.

Eleventh Air Force. Reconnaissance is flown over Kiska, Attu and the Semichis.
