The British Admiralty announced that the destroyers HMS Fame and HMS Viscount, Norwegian ship Acanthus and other escort ships sank two U-boats and damaged several others in four-day attack on Atlantic convoy HMS Fame sank the U-353 on the 16 October 1942, and HMS Viscount sank the U-661 on 15 October 1942.

North Africa. French forces repulsed enemy attack at Pichon, Tunisia.

In Libya. Fighting French forces from Chad in contact with enemy in the Fezzan.

Russian Front. In Middle Don Russians reoccupied Tarasovka and penetrated into the Ukraine.

In Burma. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) long-range bombers attacked Japanese aerodrome at Heho.

United States of America. United States Lightning fighters raided, Kiska.

General. Giraud succeeded Admiral. Darlan as High Commissioner in French North Africa.

Twelfth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, with fighters escort, hit harbour and shipping at Bizerte; heavy antiaircraft and fighters attacks account for 2 heavy bombers and 2 P-38 Lightning fighters, P-38 Lightning fighters claim 2 Fw 190's destroyed. Other B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, with P-40 escort, bomb harbour and shipping at Sfax; heavy bombers claim 3 vessels sunk. P-38 Lightning fighters on reconnaissance attack locomotives and motor vehicles South of Tunis and West of Sousse. P-40 fighters strafe barges off Sousse, destroying 1 of them, and strafe ground targets during reconnaissance over Kairouan-Sousse-Kasserine area. Spitfires patrol Oran area. C-47 Skytrain transport aircraft continue transport runs. During 26-27 December 1942 transports drop detachments of United States paratroops at bridge North of El Djem.

Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers are dispatched against Tunis harbour during 26-27 December 1942 hit primary target while 2 others bomb Sousse and Sfax.

Tenth Air Force. 12 India Air Task Force (IATF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb railroad station, dock area, arsenal, and power plant at Bangkok. Chine Air Task Force (Chine Air Task Force (CATF) ) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit Lashio.

Fifth Air Force. Heavy bombers carry out single bomber attacks against Cape Gloucester, Finschhafen, and Madang, and attack shipping off New Britain. Japanese aircraft from Rabaul attack Doboduru but are driven off by Fifth Air Force fighters.

South Pacific (SOPAC). General Mulcahy, United States Marine Corps (USMC), arrives on Guadalcanal with Second Marine Aircraft Wing and assumes operational control of all aircraft on the island, including those of the Army Air Force.

Eleventh Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and 9 P-38 Lightning fighters attack Holtz Bay but do not find the 8 float Zeros seen there the previous day. The P-38 Lightning fighters strafe Attu installations at minimum altitude. The B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Sarana Bay. Antiaircraft fire downs one P-38 Lightning fighters and damages another. Later 6 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 4 P-38 Lightning fighters over Kiska and Gertrude Cove abort due to low ceiling. An OA-10 flies reconnaissance over Northeast Kiska.
