Russian Front. South West of Stalingrad Soviet troops captured railway stations of Zhutovo and Chilekov after extreme fighting with Wehrmacht ground forces.

In Siam. United States of America heavy bombers carried out a major attack on Bangkok and surrounding areas.

In Australasia. United States of America Flying Fortresses and Liberators bombers bombed Rabaul, wrecking four large Japanese surface ships. United States of America Lightning fighters in action over Papua for the first time.

Twelfth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, escorted by P-38 Lightning fighters, bomb shipping and dock facilities at Sousse, damaging docks and warehouses and claiming direct hits on 4 vessels. P-38 Lightning fighters and P-40 fighters fly several reconnaissance missions over Tunisia while Spitfires patrol Oran and Bone areas. C-47 Skytrain transport aircraft transport flights continue. British First Army repels attack in Medjez el Bab area.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers pound shipping at Rabaul while B-26 Marauder medium bombers hit targets in Gona area. A single B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hits runway at Finschhafen.

Eleventh Air Force. 2 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers flying reconnaissance over Kiska and Amchitka abort in bad weather.
