United States of America bombers attacked airframe factory at Méaulte, near Albert, and fighters swept St Omar and Etretat regions. At night the British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers raided Nuremberg and Saarbrücken. 30 missing. Soviet bombers destroyed, Finnish Army supply Headquarters at Helsinki

In China. Chinese retook Chuhsien.

The Luftwaffe carried out intensive bombing on three omnibuses at Bristol, causing many casualties.

Eighth Air Force. 11 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb aeroplane factory of Avions Potez at Meaulte, an important repair depot for German fighters.

United States Army, Middle East Air Forces (USAMEAF). 2 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers squadrons bomb docks, shipping, and jetties in Tobruk harbour.

Tenth Air Force. 8 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit barracks and ammunition dumps at Hoang Su Phi and a fuel dump at Phu Lo. This is the largest force of medium bombers used by Chine Air Task Force (CATF) to date, and the first medium bombers mission flown without escort.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-26 Marauder medium bombers pound forces at Milne Bay.

Eleventh Air Force. Of 3 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bombing Kiska, 1 fails to return. All available B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and 2 flights of P-38 Lightning fighters fly naval cover at Nazan Bay. An attack mission to Attu is cancelled due to weather.

Zone of Interior. Lieutenant Colonel Harold L Neely takes command of Twelfth Air Force.
